Dining Room Furniture:
|
 |
This table was recently
done and represents a solution to a problem I've been thinking
about for awhile - how to do a large extension table with sturdy
leaves that store underneath the top. When the lantern
collars are lifted slightly, the main top can be lifted and the
extensions slide easily out or back in and the top automatically
adjusts. Unextended the table seats four, and extended it
seats eight. This piece can be done without lanterns. The
table shown, in cherry with lanterns, would be $3375.00, without
lanterns $2975.00. Dimensions - unextended - 63L
36D 39H, extended - 100L 36D 39H. Table
height w/o lanterns would be 30". |

This dramatic dining room furniture was inspired by the designs
of the Prairie Architects and Frank Lloyd Wright. Shown here in quartersawn white
oak with a satin waterproof finish. "Lanterns" on each of the four posts
are done in artglass, one bulb per post. To dine at this table is a real experience.
The high-back chairs create an intimate enclosure for those around the table. And
the glass lanterns give off the glow of candlelight. Table 43H 95L 48D and
29H to tabletop. $3375.00 Chair 51H 15 1/2W 17D.
$725.00 each as shown for four or more. This
design can, of course, be altered to suit your needs. |

Done as a companion piece to the group above, this sideboard has custom artglass panels in
the doors and the wood used is quartersawn white oak. 29 1/2H 72L
20D. $2550.00. |

Inspired by the dining table
Wright designed for the Allen house - massive, architectural, with lines that accentuate the
horizontal. The chairs take their inspiration from Wright's design for the Husser house. All the pieces are in
cherry. Table 30H 84W 42D. $3350.00 There are better
pictures of one of these tables farther down the page. Chair 51H 16 1/2W 17D. $825.00 each,
slightly more for quantities under four. These
pieces were finished with a waterproof, urethane-based product, but they can also be
finished in oil. . |

This sideboard was done as a companion
piece to the work above. Drawers dovetailed front and back, hand-fitted into the
case. European hinges on the doors. All in cherry. 30H 72W
20D. $2175.00. |

The cherry dining table shown here was
inspired by Wright's design for the Allen house in Wichita. Believe me, it looks more massive in real life. Finished in
a urethane based, fully waterproof finish. 30H 42W 96D -
$3350.00,
design can be altered . |

Borrowing details from several of Wright's designs, this custom dining group,
done in cherry, has an elegance all its own. Prairie style in every way,
and the chairs with slanted backslats adds an extra bit of comfort. The
sideboard is just like the one with glass doors farther up the page only in
cherry. The picture on the right was provided by the folks that
commissioned the work - thank you! Table 29 1/2H 42W 96L -
$3475.00. Chair -
52H 16W 19 1/2D - $895.00 each. Sideboard 29 1/2H
72L 20D - $2450.00. |

My
version, in cherry, of a dining chair (both high and lowback) designed
by Wright for the Coonley house
near Chicago. The customer wanted the backs 7 inches higher than the
original. The details, all combined give the chair a Japanese look.
44"H 17W 18D highback, and 27 1/2 H lowback. Four or more of this
chair would sell for $850.00 each and $670.00 lowback. |
|
 |
I
truly enjoyed creating this table in cherry and I think the subtle Japanese detailing went
together very well. Original table designed by FLW for Taliesin I
believe. This table serves as a conference table for a law office, the dimensions are 30"H
48"W 110"D, oil finish. $3935.00. |

The
customers commissioning this work took advantage of my ability to
customize. The table, Prairie School through and through, goes
from 7 feet to 10 feet via end leaves. They wanted the ability to remove
the lanterns completely when more space was needed. I left the glass off the lanterns
for a local artisan in their town to match work he'd done elsewhere in the
house. The chairs are based on Wright's Husser chair except the backslats
are slanted. All work in cherry. Table: 30H 76L 42D
$4475.00 Chairs: 52H 17W 19 1/2D
$875.00
each (4 or more). |

The drawing for this piece was supplied by the customer and may be unique I
think. I call it a Prairie style double sideboard - doors on both sides. The customers
wanted a large unit to store dinnerware and to also be a break between the
dining area and the living room. It was done as a companion piece to the group
above almost a year later. In cherry, 30H 38W 82L
$4075.00 With a few minor changes this piece could
serve as a library table. |

The dining furniture pictured here was an attempt to
draw inspiration primarily from the work of Rennie Mackintosh while incorporating a few
Wrightian features - mainly, the use of lanterns on each post. Dining at this table
is absolutely unique. The colored glass, both in the lanterns and inlaid into the
backs of the chairs, plus the off-white color, makes routine meals seem special and almost
magical. Colors for the artglass lanterns are pink, lavender, spring green,
black and off white. Table 42H 89L 38D. $3925.00 as
shown. Chair 53H 15 1/2W 17D. $750.00 like these for four or more. |
|
 |
Very similar to the Mackintosh styled table above, this table was
done in a dark stained quartersawn white oak and the glass for the lanterns was
supplied by the customer. A dark stain such as this requires 5 to 6 coats of
stain before the finish is applied, adding to the cost. 42H
95L 42W. $3950.00 as shown. |
